Red-light cameras undermine rule of law

Red-light cameras and speed are a cause of despair for several motorists. This is a modern proposal which was made possible with the help of technology. These cameras have been placed in a minimum of 24 states. Even though these cameras serve as the revenue boon meant for the governments all across the country, their intrusion experienced in the daily life can be disturbing. Moreover, their constitutionality can actually be dubious.

Using these specifics cameras can actually violate the 6th Amendment. The existing Confrontation Clause actually grants the criminal defendants, right to get confronted with witnesses brought against them. Given the fact that this is just a camera, nut not the person who witnessed offense, such law violations cannot actually be considered offense.

The ticket for lawful offense is then issued in the name of the vehicle’s owner but not the person who is actually driving it. This leads of the issue of the actual offender and his identity. The tickets in maximum places are nothing extra but civil fine that makes collection and enforcement difficult. Till date, the government has avoided handling this problem by having mandated the fine payment before the motorists can go ahead and renew the license or opt for auto registration.
