Google had officially announced about a dark theme for Gmail being made available for Android 10 handsets previously this month. And now, the company has made the theme official and is offering availability timeline, along with releasing it for iOS as well.
The look follows the rollout of Android 10 OS in the beginning of October, iOS 13 the previous week and also the latest iPadOS 13 release this week. Gmail dark theme is not truly black in appearance and is rather a shade of dark gray. The complete-width search area on the top is a shade of light gray whereas Google has maintained a similarly tinted color for the below navigation drawer.
The new messages sport a white-color text for subject line and sender. Meanwhile, the message preview is kept gray in color. A fainted color is utilized for all the read emails in the app. Google has tweaked the generic labels, avatars as well as other colors appropriately to remain more muted and less bright, though the profile images remain unaffected.
The theme is also extended to compose screen as well as messages option. The body of the email leverages the same white-color text, which may make it difficult to see darker signatures. Besides, the Android home-screen widget has also received a similar treatment.
